About
environ (v.) — to surround, to encircle.
From Old French environner: en- + viron, a turning, a circuit.
A strap turns around a shoulder. A brim turns around a head. A sole turns around a foot. An accessory is the smallest environment there is — the one drawn closest to the body.
OBJECTS YOU INHABIT
environe is an accessories label, designed in Shanghai since 2020.
We began in menswear. We look to uniform and workwear — not for a style to reproduce, but for a principle: let the use decide the form. Bags, hats and footwear are where that principle goes furthest.
How we work
A design is not finished when it is drawn. It is finished after it has been carried.
We make one, then we live with it — for a season, sometimes longer. We commute with it, work out of it, travel with it, and we keep changing it. The angle of a pocket. How long a strap has to be before the weight sits right. Where a seam presses after four hours. What the bag does when it is half empty.
Nothing leaves us that hasn't been lived in first.
What we leave out
No logo on the outside. No hardware that isn't holding something. No detail that exists only to be seen.
What remains is what survived being used.
